Horseback Riding - A Puerto Rico Tradition

Dating back to the 1500s, horseback riding has been an island mainstay. A great place to ride is Carabalí Rainforest Park, minutes away from our hotel. With more than 70 majestic horses across 600 acres, visitors ride along the Mameyes River, taking in the tropical sights along the way. Riding on the beach in nearby Luquillo will also soon be available from Carabalí.

Horseback Riding in El Yunque

Few places in the world are as beautiful for riding as El Yunque Rainforest. In fact, it's the home of Carabalí Rainforest Park, where your ride will take you along the Mameyas River, through rolling green fields, and into the forest

Puerto Rico Equestrian Tradition

Horses have a long tradition on our island, dating as far back as the Spanish conquistadores who brought them here in 1509. Stately local breeds include the Puerto Rico Paso Fino, or "Fine Gait," known around the world for just that, as well as their extremely smooth ride.

  • Where can I go horseback riding on the beach?

Locally, Carabalí Rainforest Park will soon offer riding tours on the scenic beaches of Luquillo. If you're up for the drive, Puerto Rico's west coast is also ideal for seaside riding. The 2-hour trek takes riders past famous landmarks.
  • What should I wear horseback riding?

Even though it's warm, be sure to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. You'll be much more comfortable, and avoid chaffing through the ride.
