Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort Announces March 1 Re-Opening

Upscale Puerto Rico Resort Unveils Renovation and Enticing New Culinary Offerings

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico (January 31, 2018) – Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort, part of Wyndham Hotel Group's upscale Wyndham Grand brand, announces a re-opening date of March 1, 2018 following its brief closure after Hurricane Maria. At its unveiling, the lush oceanfront resort will reveal a multi-million dollar renovation and refreshed spaces including the lobby lounge. In addition, travelers are invited to celebrate the resort’s commitment to the island’s recovery: one dollar of every room night booked by all guests for March and April will be donated to the El Yunque Rainforest Restoration Fund, with the goal of raising $10,000.

“We are eager to welcome travelers back to our newly renovated resort to celebrate this beautiful island,” said Nils Stolzlechner, general manager of Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort. “During the last few months the spirit of Puerto Rico has grown stronger than ever, and we are incredibly grateful and proud that together we have restored this region back into an incredible travel destination.”

Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort will also celebrate its re-opening with an introduction of new culinary offerings in addition to the resort’s already eclectic range of restaurants and lounges offering everything from traditional “cocina criolla” (Puerto Rican cuisine) to tasty American favorites. Executive Chef Ramon Carillo will showcase new delectable dishes, all crafted to his precise standards, at the following culinary outlets during the resort’s re-opening:

  • Caicu Rum Bar: The resort debuts Caicu Rum Bar, a brand-new venue featuring handcrafted, rum-based cocktails, including a selection of rare private reserve batches. Following a one million dollar investment, the sleek and sophisticated Caicu Rum Bar is an ideal spot to wind down while gazing out over the beautiful beach and vibrant reefs with a cocktail and light bites, including Mofongo Bites, Local Red Snapper Ceviche, and Puerto Rican Hummus.
  • Marbella: Marbella’s $1.2 million renovation debuts as the resort’s modern restaurant featuring a sleek design with a menu of traditional American favorites and Caribbean specialties. A thoughtfully-selected color palette of warm neutrals and rustic textures are complemented by wooden finishes and sense of the ocean, bringing the feel of the surrounding nature indoors.

Additional offerings that will be available following the March re-opening include: Palio, an intimate and elegant restaurant serving exquisitely prepared Italian cuisine; Hole in One, offering drinks and bites served by the golf course; and 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar & Grill, featuring fresh salads, burgers, sandwiches and frozen concoctions served poolside. Additionally, the resort’s refreshed beachfront Tiki Hut and Pool Bar will double its seating capacity to accommodate upwards of 40 guests. Also renovated and conveniently located for guest access is Barista Café, offering light meals and snacks, including coffee, pastries, sandwiches and more.

Guests seeking a relaxing getaway will also be able to take advantage of Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort’s secluded access to one mile of golden beaches, 7,000-square-foot Mandara Spa and fitness center, two championship 18-hole golf courses, premier casino, international tennis center, lounges and entertainment venues.

“We are proud of the dedication, strength and perseverance that Nils, our leaders and associates at Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort have demonstrated over the last several months,” said Mark Kukulski, president of Wyndham Hotel Group's management organization. “After more than ten years in Puerto Rico, we continue our commitment to this wonderful island and welcome vacationers and convention guests with open arms.”
